As it is, I would advise you to steer clear of any "reality show", or what passes for reality show on Indian TV. You will find that they are all merely song-n-dance shows, were the losers get all the attention. Whole the loser dabs her eyes with a hanky to the accompaniment of soulful music (you will think someone died) , the winner is cold-shouldered.
And then you have the well rehearsed "surprise element" - the judges make a few scathing remarks on someone, or the contestants have a tiff...
Out of all the reality show blisters on TV, "Adhiradi Singer" on Sun simply stands out - for its mediocrity. Whatever be the limitations of these "reality" shows, one at least thought that the contestants had some amount of talent in singing and dancing. "Adhiradi Singer" simply show cases people who hope to carry a tune one day and also seem to have about ten left feet.
Last episode, for instance had a duo, attempting the song "Chinna Rasaave" from, I think, Walter Vetrivel. The lady started zestfully ,"Chinna Raasaave" as if she was calling coals and the gent replied with some hesitation, "Rosaave..." as if he was on his death bed.
One wonders how the judges select a winner in such shows? I suppose, as long as you dont forget the lyrics and dont trip over your partner, you have every chance of beating the others hollow!
Now the Must Watch:
Pokerface on Real TV is a watchable quiz show. No melodrama here, losers lose with grace, and winners, too, win with grace.
The questions are moderately difficult. Participants cop a certain sum for every correct answer. But here is the catch: no contestant knows the score of the others. At the end of each round, the contestants decide whether they will stay or take their winnings and pack up. So, even if you have fared badly, if you retain your sang froid , you can make the other guys believe that they need to pack up. Needless to say, the ladies seem to be adept at this art compared to the menfolk. As they say, the female of the species is deadlier than the male!
