Did you notice what I noticed? At the start of the election campaign, the media raised the slogan "Advani Vs Manmohan". Now, it is "Advani Vs Modi"!
Does it mean that the NDA is all set to win the elections this time? May be!
But certainly, it looks like pitting Manmohan's charisma against that of Advani has not worked. Ask anyone, when you are pitting chap 1's charisma against chap 2's, the trick is to ensure that both the chaps have charisma.
The P.M is the quintessential nice guy - a good citizen and may be a good husband and father too. But apart from the time when someone threw a shoe at him, he hasn't been much of a show-stopper (shoe- stopper?)!
I think the ruse now is to introduce the Modi factor and queer the pitch for the BJP somehow.
May be the idea is to create/ widen the rift between factions of the BJP and get the BJP cadres working against the party's interests? Quite a scheme, I should say!

albeit what we see on CNN here is different. they say that a woman who fought for 'untouchables' when she was a chief minister (forgot her name, not her fault for having bestowed a forgettable name which has phonetic proximity to a carnatic raga - a clue for the musically disinclined) apparently is leading her party to victory and has paved her way to becoming the first 'untouchable' prime minister. unclear if there is a different way for other types of prime ministers. wonder how they would sling shoot garlands at the 'untouchable' prime minister...
hordes of befuddled 'untouchables', sitting at arms length of course, listening with awe to her seemingly vitriolic spewing in a language as alien as contemporary tamil is what we see here on TV news.
