K.R Vijaya

I take great pride in the fact that this blog does not contain any material that could be detrimental to the general well being of my readers. But for once I may be straying away from this straight and narrow path.

Fact is, over the last few weeks, I have been forced, against my better judgment, to watch "Ootivarai Uravu" at least 3/4 times a day. My son likes it and demands that the movie be played over and over again. The movie is, of course, a gem. But having to watch K.R.Vijaya at regular intervals throughout the day can really sap one's joie de vie.

If God intentionally gave her a face like a sauce pan and sphagettied hair ,then I will refrain from saying anything about it. But I always got the feeling that whatever role she played, her toilet never looked complete without a mop and a dustpan.

In the said movie, she plays an 18 year old girl!18? Who are you kidding???

What really puts the lid on things is the song "Thedinen Vandhadhu" wherein her attempts at dancing remind you of the frightful agonies of a dyspeptic who has swallowed a couple of iron door knobs by mistake. (Caution : Before watching the video, reread Para1).

for all that - she is called "Punnagai Arasi" :) . Also, the dress she wears for this was supposed to cost a bomb even at that time.

But given that - dont you think that probably people in that generation really liked her? Maybe in this generation - we can no longer relate to what people felt at that time?

There are somethings that transcend time while there are others that appear glorious only for a specific period of time.

aahhhhh.... the knife is twisting.

k.r.vijaya is a god given manna to the dry world of tamil cinema. the only actor who could hold the fort by herself (no reference to her physical form here) against male dominated tamil filmdom.

i have to now watch at least a couple punnagai arasi movies just to forget and forgive this frivolous fiefdom fraught with false factoids falling over fans' favorite female star...i can think of one other f letter word, can i? :-)

Anu

I am sure your son must be watching it again and again for MSV's songs, Nagesh comedy and Sivaji's style.

KRV, in that song was surely bad.

i doubt an 18 month old can even comprehend babbles let alone the dialogues or mannerisms.. i am positive the kid is into k.r.vijaya. way to go, little one! (who wouldn't? particularly, thedinen vandadu song)

if those swanky moves are the result of frightful swallowing, send me a dozen iron door knobs, i say.

Rouse, Hearty welcome!(btw,is "Rouse" a proper noun or the Chennai Tamil "rouse"?)
You will notice that the title alludes to her teeth - the only part of her person that u cd look at without wincing!

Durai,I get your point.K.R.V is a miracle of sorts. There are certain qualities, namely, looks, grace, poise and charm which she does not possess and still got on with her career fairly well.

Anu, ur blog on KR.Vijaya has more caustic soda than panneer soda in it. May be u would soften ur opinion if u see some of her B/W movies. The eastman color (or whatever it is) hasnt been very kind to her.

ok.. abt her dance moves, the less said the better, but remember the entire movie including this dance was intended to be a comic relief. watch the video with audio muted, u'll realise this.
